Dr. Ali Sadeghi brings a focused intensity to his breast reconstructive patients. His main interest is in advancing the quality of breast reconstruction, and he is an expert in the revolutionary DIEP flap breast reconstruction procedure, reconstructing breasts from a patient's abdominal fat.

Also known as the “tummy tuck flap," this procedure removes excess skin and fat from the lower abdomen without muscle sacrifice. Deep Inferior Epigastric Peforator (DIEP) flap breast reconstruction differs from procedures of the past in that no muscle is removed, allowing for both a quicker recovery time and maintenance of core strength. The older versions of this abdominal flap known as the TRAM flap sacrifices part or all of the rectus abdominis muscle (6 pack muscle) causing core strength weakness, abdominal hernias or bulges. For this reason the TRAM flap ins not used in our practice. We exclusively use abdominal tissue in the form of DIEP flaps for breast reconstruction.

Deep inferior epigastric perforator (DIEP) flap. This procedure allows your surgeon to use only the fat and skin from the abdominal wall in your lower abdomen for your breast reconstruction, based on that area's deep blood supply. Abdominal muscle is left intact, allowing you to continue to use the abdominal muscles to maintain your core strength.

Another way the abdominal tissue can be used for breast reconstruction is in the form of the Superficial inferior epigastric artery (SIEA) flap. Similar to the DIEP this procedure allows the surgeon to only use the fat and skin from the abdominal wall in your lower abdomen based on its superficial blood supply. Again abdominal muscle is left intact, to allow you to continue to use the abdominal muscles to maintain their core strength.
