Who Can Get Breast Augmentation Surgery?
Women may seek breast augmentation, also known as mammoplasty, for any number of reasons. Some women desire to regain the fullness they had before pregnancy and nursing, while others simply want to increase volume or improve the symmetry of their breasts.
The best candidates for breast augmentation are physically fit and emotionally sound. These women decide to undergo breast augmentation for themselves — not for a partner, or for the perception that their self-worth will increase with augmentation.
The Breast Augmentation Procedure
Two types of implants are available to choose from, with a variety of shapes, styles, materials, and orientations. Dr. Sadeghi will work with you to choose the right breast implants for the look you want to achieve.
Depending on your desired breast size, shape, placement, and texture, he will use one of several surgical approaches to minimize scarring.
Saline implants are filled with a sterile saltwater solution. During surgery, the implants are empty. Once they are placed under the skin, they are filled. This type of implant tends to look less natural than silicone implants; however, should the implant leak or burst, the problem will be immediately noticeable, and the solution will be absorbed naturally into the body.
This type of implant is FDA-approved for patients ages 18 and older.
Silicone implants are filled with medical grade silicone: a cohesive gel that feels like natural breast tissue. This type of implant comes pre-filled, necessitating a slightly larger incision in the skin of the chest for placement. If a silicone implant leaks, it may not fully collapse, so you’ll schedule follow-up appointments with Dr. Sadeghi to check on implant integrity.
This type of implant is FDA-approved for patients ages 22 and older.
Risks of Breast Augmentation
As with any surgical procedure, breast augmentation comes with risks. Some of these risks include capsular contracture, bleeding, infection, scarring, and implant deflation. However, Dr. Sadeghi has performed thousands of successful breast augmentation and breast reconstruction procedures for patients View some before and after pictures from happy patients in our patient gallery, or browse testimonials from women who underwent breast augmentation in Dr. Sadeghi’s expert care.
Recovering From Your Breast Augmentation
Though your results will be immediately visible after your surgery, it’s important to give yourself enough time to heal. You’ll notice some swelling for the first week following the procedure. This is normal. As the swelling subsides, your breast tissue will slowly stretch to make more room for the implant, and the end result will be full and natural.
